PORTLAND, Maine — Incoming Portland City Manager Jon Jennings announced Thursday that he has appointed Anita LaChance, acting deputy city manager, to serve as deputy city manager on a permanent basis.

LaChance was previously director of recreation and facilities management for the city and also served as budget director, assistant finance director and, from 1998 until July 2012, assistant city manager.

The Portland City Council will vote on the appointment at a meeting Monday. If approved, LaChance will earn an annual salary of $136,656, according to a release.

“I have known Anita for a long time and have always been impressed with her commitment and passion for the city of Portland,” Jennings said in the release. “Anita knows Portland’s city government inside and out. Her depth and institutional knowledge of the various city departments makes her an excellent choice for this position.”
