BOOTHBAY HARBOR, Maine — Police are investigating the discovery Saturday of three bodies inside two houses in Boothbay Harbor. Maine State Police said no one else is involved outside of the three people found dead.

Local police found the three bodies after being asked to conduct a well-being check at one of the properties, Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland reported late Saturday afternoon in a news release.

The three people are believed to be members of the same family, he wrote. Two bodies were found in a home on Lakeside Drive, and the third body was found later inside a Montgomery Road home. Two of the victims are men and one is a woman, McCausland said. The woman and one of the men are in their 70s and the other man is in his 40s, he said.

A team of Maine State Police detectives began arriving in the seaside town at midday to gather evidence from the two houses and determine the circumstances of the case.

The bodies will be taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta overnight for autopsies that will begin Sunday. Police expect to release more information Sunday afternoon including the identities of the three people.
