ROCKLAND, Maine — A Cushing resident has been named the social worker of the year by the Maine Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.
Loren Andrews, a licensed clinical social worker with an office on Main Street in Rockland, was given the award June 24 by the organization.
The organization pointed out that Andrews is a practicing social worker; teaches social work at the University of Maine; chairs the NASW Maine Legislative Action Committee and the NASW committee on elections; and this past year, chaired the political action committee of the Professional Association for Customer Engagement. He also has co-taught a continuing education class for NASW on ethics and technology.
Andrews represents Cushing on the Regional School Unit 13 board, a seat he has held for seven years.
“If you googled ‘effective multi-tasking,’ I’m sure his picture would pop up,” states a news release issued by the social workers organization.
“This was a well-earned award for a man who has given so much of his life to serving the common good,” the release concludes.
