READING, Pennsylvania — The Portland Sea Dogs had a rally going in the ninth inning with runners at first and third with one out, but Ryan O’Sullivan induced a game-ending double play off the bat of Marco Hernandez, and the Reading Fightin Phils held on for a 2-1 Eastern League win Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Portland couldn’t cash in on multiple opportunities to score, finishing 2-for-11 with runners-in-scoring position and hitting into two double plays.

Reading grabbed a 1-0 lead off Mike McCarthy (4-4) in the fourth inning. Andrew Knapp reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a double by Cam Perkins.

In the seventh, Reading’s Harold Martinez singled, advanced to third base on an error by right fielder Henry Ramos, and scored on a sacrifice fly by KC Serna.

Portland got its lone run off Ethan Martin in the eighth. Hernandez led off with a double and Carlos Asuaje singled. Sam Travis delivered a broken-bat RBI single.

Tom Windle (3-5) worked two scoreless innings to earn the win for Reading. O’Sullivan recorded the final five outs for his second save of the season.
