THOMASTON, Maine — A Thomaston woman was taken to the hospital following a single-car crash early Friday morning that closed a section of Old County Road for four hours.
Christine Elwell, 44, was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport following the crash that was reported at 1:48 a.m. on Old County Road near the intersection with West Meadow Road. Elwell told police that she received a telephone call and when she answered it she lost control of her vehicle and struck a utility pole, knocking it down, according to Thomaston Police Chief Kevin Haj.
Officer Michael Blais, who responded to the crash, suspected alcohol and took Elwell to the Knox County Jail for a sobriety test but before that was done she complained of a possible concussion and was taken to the hospital, the chief said. Police took a blood test but results were not immediately available, the chief said.
No charges have been filed, he said.
Both power and telephone crews responded to replace the utility pole. Old County Road from Route 1 to Dexter Street was closed until after 5:30 a.m.
