BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Biddeford police chief has confirmed that Sunday’s incident was a false report called in, the second “swatting” case in Maine this month.

Biddeford Police Chief Roger Beaupre says what happened Sunday has some similarities to another incident that happened in Standish last week. A false report was made to 911 around 11 a.m. with the caller making serious threats.

According to Chief Beaupre, a man called 911 Sunday saying he’d shot his parents in an apartment on Clifford Street and that he might hurt others. This triggered a full-scale response from police that lasted several hours.

Police say when they got to the apartment in question, there was a man inside who had no idea what was going on and there wasn’t anybody hurt in the building. He’s not a suspect regarding who made the call, the chief says.

Biddeford and Saco Police Department had the area cleared at around 1 p.m.

The situation remains under investigation.
