ROCKLAND, Maine — An arrest warrant has been issued for a 56-year-old Rockland man accused of dealing methamphetamines from a Rockland boarding house after he failed to show up in court Monday to be sentenced.
Judge Evert Fowle ordered the issuance of the arrest warrant for Robert A. Rein. Judge Fowle also set bail at $50,000 cash for when Rein is apprehended.
Rein had appeared in court last month and agreed to plead guilty to a Class A charge of aggravated trafficking in meth. A Class A crime is punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine. Rein’s formal plea and sentencing were scheduled for Monday at which time he was to be sentenced to five years in prison.
Rein had been arrested Nov. 10 along with another man following a several-months long investigation by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Rockland police and U.S. Postal Service inspectors. The MDEA stated at the time of Rein’s arrest that the two men were having methamphetamine shipped to Rockland from California.
The drugs were then being resold at the Brunswick Rooms where Rein rented a room.
The charge against Rein was elevated to Class A because he had been convicted in 2005 of trafficking in cocaine out of Lincoln County.
His co-defendant Derek Vandoren, 32, of Rockland, California, was sentenced in May to two years in jail with all but six months suspended.
