ROBBINSTON, Maine — A Robbinston man is dead, the apparent victim of a lawn mowing accident on July 11, according to news release issued Monday by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Malcolm Cochrane, 70, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

A neighbor called 911 at 5:40 p.m. Saturday to report that Cochrane appeared to have fallen off a steep embankment while mowing his lawn and was lying on the edge of the St. Croix River, the sheriff’s office reported.

Cochrane apparently got too close to the edge of the 10- to 15-foot embankment and went over the edge with the mower, which ended up suspended in the brush.

Cochrane died “on impact,” according to the release, which offered no further details.

Efforts to reach the sheriff’s office for more information were unsuccessful Monday.
