CORNVILLE, Maine — A man is facing charges after allegedly punching a woman in the face on Monday, according to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
Police were called to a West Ridge Road home when a handyman working on the roof reported the alleged assault, according to Chief Deputy James Ross.
When deputies arrived, they learned the 63-year-old victim had been repeatedly punched in the face and head by Thomas Roy, 34, as she sat on the couch, Ross said.
Another woman had tried to stop the assault unsuccessfully, although she was not attacked, Roy said.
After the assault was reported, Roy picked up a hand tool on his way out of the residence, threatened the handyman and fled, Ross said. Roy was later found on Beckwith Road where he was arrested.
Roy was charged with domestic violence assault and criminal threatening and is being held at the Somerset County Jail.
The victim suffered a concussion and broken facial bones and was transported to Redington-Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan.
