CUMBERLAND, Maine — A Corinna man was uninjured Thursday after the tractor-trailer he was driving burst into flames on the Maine Turnpike, state police said.
Ward Bond, 50, was hauling a load of coal ash when the fire ignited around mile 56, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland. Bond was traveling north.
McCausland said troopers believe a wheel bearing on the trailer overheated, igniting the fire. Nobody was injured and the truck’s contents did not spill.
The fire closed both lanes of the turnpike briefly.
Bond will not be charged.
