ROCKLAND, Maine — A truck hauling a flatbed knocked down a utility pole and traffic lights at a busy Rockland intersection Friday morning.
There were no injuries when the flatbed failed to clear the pole at the intersection of Park and Main streets shortly after 7 a.m. The pole broke off and was dangling over Main Street.
Rockland police and the city’s public works crew responded. Public works was able to remove the pole using a bucket truck and the intersection was cleared.
The driver, John Lardner of Milton, New Hampshire, will not be charged, Rockland Police Sgt. Don Finnegan said, adding the driver simply misjudged clearing the pole.
The city contacted an electrical repair company, expected to arrive later Friday. Traffic at the intersection may be interrupted again if a new pole is erected. In the interim, a temporary stop sign has been placed at the intersection for westbound traffic while the remaining traffic lights are on, Finnegan said.
