FREEPORT, Maine — Freeport police and the FBI are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at KeyBank just before 3 p.m. Friday, Freeport police said in a news release.

The suspect is described as a black man armed with a handgun, police said. No other information was released about the incident.

KeyBank spokeswoman Therese Myers said Friday that the bank was closed after the robbery occurred but that it will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

“KeyBank is cooperating fully with the Freeport Police Department and the FBI,” she said.

The Freeport robbery occurred shortly after a pair of armed robberies in Portland.

The first occurred at 1:45 p.m. in the Hannaford parking lot on Forest Avenue, and the second was about an hour later at at the Seaside Nursing Home, according to a news release from Portland police.

During the first incident, an armed man approached a man sitting in his vehicle and demanded his phone, but the robber eventually fled on foot without the phone, according to Portland police.

About an hour later, a woman sitting in her car at the Seaside Nursing Home was approached by a man who allegedly pointed a gun at her and ordered her out of the car before she fled. The man allegedly stole the car.

The vehicle is a silver 2004 Honda Pilot with Maine license plate 6690 SZ.

The suspect in both Portland robberies was described as black, about 20 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing dark clothing.

It was not immediately clear if the three robberies were connected.
