MOUNTAIN BIKING

Carrabassett Valley Maine will hold a mountain bike endurance event 6 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, July 18. The approximately 100K, 50K and 15K courses will cover a great mix of backcountry mountain bike terrain winding through the beautiful forests and mountains of Carrabassett Valley and its surrounding communities, consisting of technical single track, double track and dirt roads, with steep climbs and exciting down hills. The challenge is part of the New England Endurance Series. Hampshire 100, Freetown 100, and The Battle of Burlingame. A children’s race will take place on Sunday, July 19. The event benefits trail maintenance and the development of mountain bike trails in the region. FORT FAIRFIELD — The 40th Maine Potato Blossom 5 Miler is being held on Saturday, July 18, starting on Main Street. MILBRIDGE — Registration is open for the annual Milbridge 5K scheduled for Saturday, July 25, during Milbridge Days. The top three male and female 5K racers will receive cash prizes. TRIATHLON

ORRINGTON — The Bangor YMCA will host its annual Tri for the Y Sprint Triathlon, 8 a.m.-noon, July 19, beginning at Brewer Lake boat launch, to raise funds for Bangor Y. It is a USA Triathlon-sanctioned event. Triathletes will swim 750 meters in Brewer Lake, enjoy the beautiful out-and-back course through Orrington in the 12.4-mile bike, and enjoy the views from the shores of Brewer Lake in the 3.1-mile run. DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis Regional YMCA’s annual Triathlon and new Bike-Run Duathlon will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Sebec Lake.The swimming leg of the triathlon will be a quarter mile long with both the Traithlon and Duathlon following the same 12-mile bike route from the public beach, to the Peaks-Kenny entrance and then into Dover-Foxcroft. The 5K run portion of both events will end at the YMCA. Registration is open for both events for teams and individuals. After the race there will be a celebration and awards ceremony at the Y as well as music and food for all participants and spectators. Register at the Y or by visiting www.prymca.org.
