HAMPDEN, Maine — Old Town moved into the driver’s seat for the Maine District 3 baseball championship Monday night with a 4-1 victory over Bangor in a winner’s bracket game at Bordick Park.

Bronco-Hermon also stayed alive Monday with a 4-3 elimination-game victory over Brewer-Orrington.

Bangor will now face Bronco-Hermon in an elimination game at 5 p.m. Tuesday with the winner moving on to a 7:30 p.m. matchup with Old Town. If Old Town loses that game, the if-necessary game would be played at 7 p.m. Wednesday at 7:00. All of the remaining games are at Mansfield Stadium.

The District 3 champion advances to the Senior League World Series.

Bronco-Hermon 4, Brewer-Orrington 3

Bronco-Hermon’s Tyler Beaton required just 45 pitches to pitch 5½ innings and record the win. Bronco-Hermon scored four times in the third inning. Matt Leach led off with a triple, followed by RBI singles from Beaton, Zach Nash and Casey Sudbeck. Christian Greener added a sacrifice fly that drove home what proved to be the game-winning run. Leach finished with two hits and Nash with three hits. Sudbeck recorded the final three outs for the save. Brewer-Orrington was led by Alex Maxsimic with a two-run double and Jack Corey with an RBI single.

Old Town 4, Bangor 1

T.J. Crawford, Dana Ouellette and Ethan Stoddard combined to yield just two first-inning hits and Old Town capitalized on six Bangor errors to earn the win. Bangor’s Nick Cowperthwaite matched the Old Town pitchers until the sixth inning when Old Town strung together four hits to go with three Bangor errors to score all four of its runs. Kaleb Gifford’s RBI single tied the game and Stoddard’s two-run single gave Old Town the lead. Stoddard finished with two hits and was the winning pitcher, while Nick Magoon added two hits. Derek Fournier and Gary Farnham each had one hit for Bangor.

State tourney, 9-10

Saco, Westbrook stay unbeaten

At Ellsworth, Westbrook and Saco each improved its record to 4-0 with victories Monday at the state 9-10 Little League baseball tournament.

In the first game. Ben Eugley’s two-run home run in the ninth inning gave Westbrook the 8-6 victory over Bangor West.

Winning pitcher Alec Hodgkins also hit a two-run home run and a double for Westbrook, while Carter Down hit a solo home run and a single.

Scott Fahey tripled for Bangor while Landon Clark singled twice and Matt Holmes and Seth Michalik each singled.

Host Ellsworth then edged Lewiston 7-6, with Brett Bragdon hitting a double and single for the winners while Michael Palmer, Grady Henderson and Lucas Gagnon each singled in support of winning pitcher Michael Harris.

Matt Connor, Chase McKeen, Daxton St. Hilaire and Cooper St. Hilaire each singled for Lewiston.

Saco remained unbeaten in the third game of the day with a 12-2 win over Waldo County.

Mason Collins doubled for the winners while Will Palmer singled twice, and winning pitcher Brady Graffam and Evan Beaudette each singled.

Curtis Littlefield doubled for Waldo County while Draedyn Furrow and Brady Clements each singled.
