SACO, Maine — A Biddeford man was arrested late Monday night after a traffic stop turned up drugs valued at more than $13,000, according to police.
The series of events leading to the arrest of Joseph Clark, 31, started shortly after 10 p.m. when police stopped a vehicle driven by Megan Maietta, 31, of Biddeford, on Main Street, Saco Deputy Chief Jeffrey Holland said.
The vehicle had been stopped after Maietta had allegedly run a red light, Holland said.
Upon being asked for identification, Clark was unable to produce any, claiming he had a Georgia identification card that he had lost, Holland said.
Police became suspicious Clark was attempting to conceal his name, and it was soon discovered he had three warrants for unpaid fines out of Cumberland County, according to Holland.
Clark was detained until police could verify his identity, and upon searching him, 98 grams of heroin and 25 grams of ecstasy were found in his possession, while a scale, cellphone and several hypodermic needles and a small amount of cash were found in the vehicle, Holland said.
Clark was charged with aggravated drug trafficking, unlawful drug trafficking and refusing to provide his name, while Maietta was summoned for failing to stop at a red light and failing to provide insurance.
Clark was unable to post bail and taken to the York County Jail.
