ROCKLAND, Maine — A Rockland man was arrested Tuesday morning, accused of breaking into a residence and stealing a woman’s purse while she slept.
Kristopher Hillgrove, 28, was charged with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and unlawful possession of marijuana.
A Broad Street resident called police Tuesday to report she had fallen asleep on her couch with her purse beside her, but when she woke up it was gone, according to a news release from Rockland police.
Rockland police Officer John Bagley investigated and found the victim’s debit card had been used at a local convenience store. In reviewing the store’s surveillance video, Bagley identified the male using the card as Hillgrove, according to the news release.
Hillgrove was found on Broad Street and arrested. He was in possession of marijuana and alprazolam at the time of his arrest and was unable to produce proof of prescriptions for either, according to police.
