WATERVILLE, Maine — A Sidney woman is facing a drunken driving charge after her vehicle plowed into a Main Street restaurant Thursday morning, according to police.
Elaine Jacques, 60, of Sidney was pulling into a parking spot near the Jewel of India Restaurant when she drove over the sidewalk and crashed into the building, Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said.
After the initial hit, Jacques allegedly backed up, drove forward, then hit the vehicle again, upon which a witness opened the door, got her van into park and took out the keys, Rumsey said.
Rumsey said the crash damaged a column on the face of the building and broke a window, but nobody was injured and the vehicle did not break through the structure and into the dining room.
“That is an area that has a lot of foot traffic on those sidewalks,” he said. “It’s very busy during that time of day.”
After determining there were no injuries, police conducted field sobriety tests and subsequently arrested Jacques for operating under the influence, Rumsey said.
Jacques was taken to the Waterville police station and released on bail.
