WINTERPORT, Maine — Suspicious chemicals found in a vacant house in Winterport on Tuesday do not appear to be drug related, officials said Friday.
“It does not appear to be any sort of drug lab,” Sgt. Ken Grimes of the state fire marshal’s office said. “We’re in the process now of trying to identify what the chemicals were and any possible usage of them.”
Grimes said officials from the Department of Environmental Protection had removed the materials from the Meadow Road home by the end of the day Wednesday.
The sergeant added the public was never in any danger, and the chemicals do not appear to be explosives.
The house is owned by the bank. It’s not clear why the chemicals were inside the residence.
“We won’t know what if anything would come out of this until we have a chance to fully examine what we learned there at the scene,” Grimes said. “We’re done with the scene, and everything is just follow-up work.”
No charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
