CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine — Police hope an autopsy will confirm whether a local man died as a result of a fall from his second-story porch on Saturday, a police spokesman said Sunday.
John Knight, 38, of Cape Elizabeth was found dead at his single-family home at 10 Tiger Lilly Lane by a relative who called 911 at about 4:45 p.m., Cape Elizabeth police Capt. Brent Sinclair said.
The last contact relatives had with Knight was around 10 a.m. Saturday. His wife tried to reach Knight during the afternoon and, having no success, dispatched a relative to his home, Sinclair said.
“We don’t know the cause and manner of death,” Sinclair said Sunday. “We are still investigating it but there’s no evidence that it was suspicious at this point or that it was an intentional act.”
The partly wooden deck he seemed to have fallen from provided some indication of what may have happened, Sinclair said.
“There was some evidence of rotting to the deck railing and that the railing had given way,” Sinclair said.
The state medical examiner’s office is due to conduct an autopsy Sunday, Sinclair said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Sinclair at 767-3323.
