CAMDEN, Maine — Police expect to charge someone who threatened a young girl into sending naked photos of herself over the Internet.
The case opened last month when the Camden Police Department was contacted by the assistant principal at Camden Rockport Middle School about a 13-year-old girl who had received threatening messages.
Police contacted the girl’s mother and then spoke with the girl. The teenager said she had received an Instagram message and then Snapchat messages during April vacation from a person with screen names she did not recognize. The person sending the messages said that the girl was being watched and it was known when she would be alone.
The person then demanded that she send naked photos of herself or he would attack her and rape her. The girl eventually sent the person some naked photos.
Camden Police Detective Curt Andrick said he expects to charge someone as early as later Monday. He obtained search warrants for Snapchat and Time Warner to trace the IP address for the computer that sent the messages to the girl. That information was obtained two weeks ago.
The potential charges include terrorizing, sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of sexually explicit materials, according to court papers filed by Andrick in Knox County Unified Court.
