CAMDEN, Maine — A 14-year-old Rockport boy was charged Monday after allegedly sending threatening messages to a young girl in order to get her to send him naked photos of herself.
The teen was charged with terrorizing and criminal threatening, according to Camden police Detective Curt Andrick. The boy’s name is not being released because he is a minor.
The case opened last month when the Camden Police Department was contacted by the assistant principal at Camden Rockport Middle School about a 13-year-old girl who had received threatening messages.
Police contacted the girl’s mother and then spoke with the girl. The teenager said she had received an Instagram message and then Snapchat messages during April vacation from a person with screen names she did not recognize. The person sending the messages said that the girl was being watched and it was known when she would be alone.
The person then allegedly demanded that she send naked photos of herself or he would attack her and rape her. The girl eventually sent the person some naked photos.
Andrick then obtained search warrants for Snapchat and Time Warner to trace the IP address for the computer that sent the messages to the girl. That information was obtained two weeks ago.
