SANGERVILLE, Maine — A woman escaped serious injury Friday when the vehicle she was driving slammed into the back of a ramp truck on Route 23, according to the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office.

Shayla Bickmore, 18, of Dover-Foxcroft was traveling north, apparently too close to the vehicle in front of her, and did not see the broken-down truck on the side of the road, Lt. James Kane said.

The truck, owned by Clint Rohdin of Sangerville, was hauling old snowmobiles and snowmobile parts, Kane said. Rohdin had gone to get parts after the truck had broken down.

“He came back and found it involved in the crash,” Kane said.

The lieutenant said the person driving the vehicle in front of Bickmore saw the broken-down truck in time to swerve around it, but Bickmore was following too closely and did not have time to react.

Bickmore suffered a foot laceration but was not seriously injured, Kane said. She was traveling alone and was wearing her seat belt, he said.

Both vehicles were totaled.
