CARTHAGE, Maine — A father and son were arrested Thursday as authorities conducted a heroin bust at two residences in this small town, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Russell Smith, 50, and his son, Anthony, 30, are facing multiple drug charges, according to Sheriff Scott Nichols.

Two search warrants were executed, according to Nichols, one at a Winter Hill Road home and the other at a Tainter Corner Home residence.

An undisclosed amount of drugs and cash were recovered at both locations, and both men were arrested, the sheriff said.

Russell Smith was charged with unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, and Anthony Smith was accused of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and falsifying physical evidence, the sheriff said.

Both were taken to the Franklin County Detention Center. Anthony Smith later was brought to Franklin Memorial Hospital for treatment of a possible overdose.

State police assisted the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
