BREWER — Matthew Gross, 12, of Brewer will hold his fourth annual Ride for the Wet Nose road bike ride to benefit homeless animals at 9 a.m. thursday, Aug. 20. The ride will begin at Pat’s Bike Shop in Brewer.

The ride will be be 35 miles long, taking Matthew through Brewer, Bangor, Orono, Old Town, Bradley, Eddington and back to Brewer to the bike shop.

He has raised $2,000 this year, which will be split between the Bangor Humane Society in Bangor and the Animal Orphanage in Old Town.

Over the past four years of the ride, Matthew has raised nearly $8,000 to donate for the welfare of pets without homes.

Matthew began the ride after his family adopted from a shelter a 12-year-old beagle they named Buddy. Matthew felt that he could do more to help the animals at the shelter and came up with the idea of the road bike ride, to go out and get donations which he would donate to animal shelters.

For information or aid Matthew’s cause, call Jason Gross, Matthew’s father, at 299-5118.
