SWEDEN, Maine — A woman found bags filled with animal waste in the water in Sweden and officials say it’s not the first time it has happened.

On Saturday, the woman was walking her dog along Trull Brook when she saw the bags in the stream. She tried to get them out and then realized what they were. She then notified officials.

Officials say a few years ago they pulled bags filled with animal waste out of Steven’s Brook in Sweden. They say the illegal dumping is disconcerting.

“Someone is doing this on purpose or there is something wrong with them that makes them think throwing it in the water is better than throwing it anywhere else. It’s all appalling, but most alarming in the water,” said Colin Holme of the Lakes Environmental Association.

Holme says the brook feeds into Highland Lake and there are bacteria concerns, like E. coli, which can make people sick, especially those with weak immune systems.
