UNION, Maine — A home on the Payson Road was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning, according to the town’s fire chief.

Firefighters from seven communities were dispatched to the residence shortly after 2:30 a.m., Union Fire Chief Kevin Soule said.

The one-story house with a garage attached was fully involved when crews arrived on scene, according to Soule.

The homeowners managed to escape with no injuries, Soule said. The chief added it appears the blaze started in the garage end of the residence.

Soule said a couple of large propane tanks were on the property but he said there were no explosions, contrary to an earlier report by WGME.

It took crews about an hour and a half to get the fire under control. Soule said it’s unlikely a cause will be determined.

Firefighters from Union, Hope, Rockport, Warren, Waldoboro, Appleton and Washington responded.
