NEWCASTLE, Maine — Route 1 is shut down in Newcastle in the area of Robert L. Foster Antiques after at least three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident early this afternoon.
None of the injuries are life-threatening, according to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Lt. Michael Murphy, but two people involved were being transported to hospital by ambulance and a third was being taken by a family member, he said.
A Toyota sedan was southbound on Route 1 when a Ford Explorer pulled out of the parking lot at Foster’s and failed to yield to the Toyota, according to Murphy. The Toyota hit the Ford, he said.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Newcastle Fire Department, and Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
The sheriff’s office is expected to release more details about the accident later today.
