POLAND, Maine — Investigators say a valve failure is to blame for a large ammonia leak at the Poland Spring bottling plant on Thursday.
The leak shut down the plant. Four employees went to the hospital as a precaution and are expected to be OK.
The fire chief says a large amount of ammonia leaked out and the incident could have been much worse.
The leak has been contained and the plant will soon resume production.
The company says its bottled water currently in the marketplace is unaffected and safe to drink.
