NEWPORT, Maine — State police on Friday night arrested a Massachusetts man after finding crack cocaine in his sneaker during a traffic stop and search.
Gerald Urby, 33, of Mattapan, Massachusetts faces drug possession charges. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Saturday evening.
Troopers with the state police Regional Impaired Driving Enforcement [RIDE] Team stopped a rental car on Moosehead Trail in Newport and interviewed the driver and passenger.
Police said the couple’s story of why the were visiting Maine was “suspicious,” and performed criminal background checks on the pair. Police also consulted with Massachusetts law enforcement before having a K-9 search the car and the individuals in it.
Officers found six rocks of crack cocaine in Urby’s sneaker and placed him under arrest.
The female driver of the vehicle was not charged with a crime.
