BRUNSWICK, Maine — A 47-year-old Brunswick man was charged Saturday evening with allegedly attacking another man with a baseball bat, causing injuries severe enough to send that man to the hospital.

Anthony White was charged with Class B felony aggravated assault following the alleged incident, Brunswick Police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said.

A Brunswick officer encountered a 25-year-old man on Union Street, bleeding from his face and head, Hagan said. The man said White struck him several times in the head and shoulder.

Brunswick rescue workers took the injured man to Mid Coast Hospital. His condition was not immediately available Monday morning.

White remains in Cumberland County Jail, held on $540 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in Portland Unified Court on Sept. 22.
