WISCASSET, Maine — A registered sex offender from Nobleboro charged with attempting to sexually assault a young girl and failure to register as a sex offender for the second time is scheduled to appear in Lincoln County Superior Court on Monday.
James Oliver, 48, remains at the Maine State Prison in Warren on $100,000 bail, according to court documents.
Oliver was arrested the night of March 28 after Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies went to a home on East Neck in Nobleboro to investigate a reported domestic disturbance.
Sheriff’s deputies found that Oliver had been run over by a car in the home’s driveway driven by his girlfriend, 53-year-old Linda Currier of Hampden. Currier was initially charged with operating under the influence and aggravated assault, but the state dismissed those charges in May.
Deputies said at the time that Currier walked in on Oliver attempting to sexually assault a young girl. A fight ensued and continued outside, where Currier ran over Oliver, Lt. Michael Murphy of the sheriff’s office said at the time.
Oliver was arrested and charged with Class B felony attempted gross sexual assault, two counts of unlawful touching and failure to comply with the sex offender act for a second time. He was indicted in May. He did not enter a plea to the latter charge, according to documents filed in court.
Oliver is a lifetime registrant of the Maine Sex Offender Registry after being previously convicted of rape, sexual abuse of a minor and failure to comply with the sex offender registration act.
He was treated at Maine Medical Center for a leg injury, taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail and then to the Maine State Prison in Warren.
