NEW ORLEANS, La. — The New England Patriots rallied past the New Orleans Saints behind second-string quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo 26-24 in NFL preseason action Saturday night.
Garoppolo, who replaced ineffective Tom Brady after three series, led five scoring drives. He threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Chris Harper, Dion Lewis and James White ran for TDs, and Stephen Gostkowski’s second field goal of the game with 14 seconds left provided the winning points.
Garoppolo finished 28 of 33 for 269 yards and an interception.
Brandon Cooks had four receptions for 117 yards for the Saints, including a 45-yard touchdown pass from Drew Brees.
Brees connected on 8 of 10 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns.
