MONHEGAN ISLAND, Maine — A 2-year-old local girl was medically evacuated from the island by crews from the U.S. Coast Guard and Boothbay Region Ambulance.

Lincoln County dispatch called Coast Guard Station Boothbay Harbor at approximately 8:45 p.m. Sunday to request assistance taking a sheriff’s deputy, detective and a paramedic to the island in response to a possible medical emergency, according to a release from the Coast Guard.

The child, who was reported to be stable but lethargic and exhibiting flulike symptoms, and her father were taken by a Coast Guard lifeboat to an ambulance waiting at the Coast Guard station.

Lt. Michael Murphy of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in an email Monday that an initial report of a domestic dispute was unfounded, and that the child’s injuries were due to an existing medical condition.

Boothbay Region Ambulance Emergency Medical Services took the girl to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.

No further information was immediately available.
