PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A fire Sunday afternoon that displaced a family of six from the home they were renting on Phair Street is under investigation by state arson experts.

“The cause is suspicious in origin and was turned over” to the state fire marshal’s office, Presque Isle Fire Chief Darrell White said Monday. No injuries were reported in the fire that was reported at about 2:15 p.m. Sunday.

“There was heavy damage to the building; it’s going to take two or three weeks” to clean and repair, said White, who declined to give more details due to the state investigation.

The Red Cross offered the family members clothing and help with temporary living quarters until they can find another rental home or move back into the home, White said.
