CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine — Tucker Allen of Granbury, Texas, fired a 4-under-par 68 Wednesday to extend his lead among the men’s field after second-round play of the 2015 American Junior Golf Association Coca-Cola Junior Championship at the Sugarloaf Golf Club.
Allen notched five birdies and two bogeys to finish 3-under for the first nine holes. He then maintained even par on the back nine through the 17th hole, where he tallied his sixth birdie of the round to finish with a two-day combined score of 141.
Christopher Francoeur of Amesbury, Massachusetts, carded a 3-under 69 during the second round to move into second place with a combined score of 146, while Brendan Ridge of Hanover, Massachusetts, and Amadeo Figus of Rome, Italy, tied for third place at 148 after each shot a 2-under par 70 on Wednesday.
Bangor’s Drew Powell is the top Mainer in the field and tied for eighth place overall with a two-day score of 151 after a second-round 74; Reese McFarlane of Cape Elizabeth shot 77 and fell back to 10th place with a 152, Cole Anderson of Camden shot 78 to finish in a four-way tie for 14th place at 157, Caleb Manuel of Topsham (81) is in 36th place with a 163 and Pittsfield’s Eric Dugas (83) is tied for 49th with a 168 — with all advancing to Thursday’s final round.
Only the top 50 percent of the field, including ties, from the first two rounds advance to the third and final round.
On the women’s side, Brittany Park of Fullerton, California, fired a 1-over-par 73 to surpass Christina Lu, SiQin Yu and Haeley Wotnosky, who were tied for the lead after the first round. Park has a two-day total of 153, while Lu, Yu and Wotnosky are next with respective two-day combined scores of 156, 158, and 160.
The AJGA Coca-Cola Junior Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event spanning four days with three rounds of competitive play. The tournament field comprises more than 140 male and female competitors ages 12-18 hailing from 17 different states and eight countries.
