BANGOR, Maine — A man who had a knife to his throat, gave up his sneakers and cash but refused to give up a necklace during a brazen daytime robbery near downtown, Bangor police Sgt. Tim Cotton said Thursday.
“The victim refused to give up the necklace due to sentimental value and the suspect escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash and the sneakers,” the sergeant said. “The suspect left behind the boots he had been wearing.”
Jamie Brown, 35, of Bangor was later charged with Class A robbery in connection to the daytime robbery that occurred at around 12:25 p.m. Wednesday near the corner of Somerset and Center Streets. Brown has a criminal history and was one of five people arrested in an October 2014 drug bust in Hancock County.
The weapon and victim’s sneakers were recovered, Cotton said.
“The sneakers were recovered from his apartment,” he said.
Brown is being held at the Penobscot County Jail. If convicted, he faces a penalty of up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
