CAMDEN, Maine — A local physicians group has applied for permission to open offices in a Camden complex.
The health care providers of Midcoast Medicine, which is currently located in neighboring Rockport, are seeking a special exception approval from the Camden zoning board of appeals to operate a medical practice called Midcoast Medicine and Wellness in space at the High Mountain Hall complex on Mountain Street.
The zoning board will consider the request at its 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, meeting.
Dr. Doreen Kendall said the doctors expect to open the offices at the new location on Oct. 1. She said Dr. McKim Peterson, the owner of the Rockport building, is retiring. Dr. Kendall said the current Rockport space is larger than what the remaining physicians require.
She said the new group practice in Camden will retain what is currently offered but with more of a focus on wellness. All the doctors in the current practice — other than Dr. Peterson — will make up the new practice.
Camden ordinances allow for professional offices and health service facilities as a special exception in the zone where High Mountain Hall is located.
The center will have nine employees. The physicians group points out in its application that the impact on the neighborhood from the medical practice would be less than the previous occupant of the space, Beauty Mark spa.
Midcoast Medicine and Wellness will include family practice, osteopathy, gynecology, and wellness courses. The practice will cover slightly more than 2,500 square feet.
No plans for the Rockport building have been announced once the physician practices relocate.
