WISCASSET, Maine — A Nobleboro man was found not guilty on Wednesday of sexually assaulting a young girl in Nobleboro and Warren in 2000 and 2001.
Corey R. Pitcher, 46, was charged with four counts of Class A gross sexual assault. Pitcher waived his constitutional right to a jury trial, and his trial before Superior Court Justice Daniel Billings began Aug. 21. The trial resumed Tuesday and concluded on Wednesday in Lincoln County Superior Court.
After the conclusion of testimony on Wednesday, Billings retired to deliberate and subsequently issued the verdict of not guilty.
District Attorney Geoff Rushlau, who represented the state during the trial, said the alleged victim’s testimony made for a strong case.
“I thought the victim’s testimony was very clear and detailed,” Rushlau said.
Matthew D. Bowe, an attorney from Brunswick, represented the defendant during the trial. A message left for Bowe was not returned by Thursday afternoon.
