CARIBOU, Maine — Despite rising warm temperatures in August, this year remains Bangor’s chilliest in more than four decades, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service’s Caribou office reported Friday Bangor is seeing its coolest average year to date since 1971.

Bangor has an average recorded temperature of 43.1 degrees from Jan. 1 through Sept. 2, according to the weather service.

That comes after the city had its 11th-warmest August on record, with an average temperature of 70 degrees, 2.9 degrees above normal, according to the weather service.
