PORTLAND, Maine — Shane Carle worked eight scoreless innings and allowed just three hits, leading the New Britain Rock Cats to a 3-0 Eastern League baseball win over the Portland Sea Dogs in the series opener Friday night at Hadlock Field.
After throwing 17 pitches in the first inning, Carle (W, 14-7) didn’t throw over 10 pitches in any of the final seven he pitched, facing the minimum over his final six innings.
Portland’s Danny Rosenbaum finished his season with his best start of the year. Rosenbaum went six scoreless innings and allowed just two hits while striking out four. Rosenbaum didn’t factor into the decision.
New Britain scored the game’s only runs in the seventh inning. After a leadoff single by Jordan Patterson off of Mike Augliera (L, 3-15), Will Swanner bunted him over, then Joey Wong hit an RBI double down the right-field line to put the Rock Cats up 1-0.
After Zach Osborne struck out, Juan Ciriaco and Tyler Massey hit back-to-back two-out singles to pad the New Britain lead at 3-0
