THROGGS NECK, New York — Brett McKinney ran for 111 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns to propel the SUNY Maritime Privateers to a 30-0 football victory over the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners in a mutual opener Saturday at Reinhart Field.

Zach Chilcott led the Privateers with 137 passing yards, including a 42-yard touchdown and Kendal Parker sparked SUNY with 10 total tackles, including one tackle for a loss and an interception.

The Mariners combined for 276 yards of total offense. Michael Fahey finished with 84 yards on three passes and 54 rushing yards. Joshua Doolan amassed 94 yards of total offense, on 42 rushing yards and a career-long 52-yard reception.

Collin Joyce recorded seven solo tackles to lead the Mariners, while Cody Chapman recorded a total of seven tackles, including 2.5 tackles for a loss and a sack. Michael Burgess made four total tackles, including a tackle for a loss and a fumble recovery in the red zone, late in the third quarter. Cody McDonald added three tackles, a broken up pass and an interception at the end of the first half.

The Privateers (1-0) forced the Mariners to punt on their opening possession and responded with a 23-yard rush from Brett McKinney to take an early lead. The Mariners fumbled on their next possession, and on a drive sparked by a 35-yard rush from McKinney, SUNY doubled their lead to 14-0.

In the second quarter, the Mariners held the Privateers to a 43-yard field goal and entered the half down, 17-0. SUNY added 14 points in the third quarter to stretch the lead to 30-0 and claim the victory in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

The Mariners return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19 for their home opener against Massachusetts Maritime on Ritchie Field for the 43rd Annual Admiral’s Cup, as part of Homecoming 2015.
