BANGOR, Maine — Lauren Russell, Kerianne Downing and Britt Mellor each scored a first-half goal to give the Husson University Eagles a 3-0 lead and they held on to edge the St. Joseph’s College Monks 3-2 in field hockey action Monday at the Winkin Complex.

Hanna Jordan assisted on two of the goals as the Eagles (1-3) posted their first win.

Michalia Parent scored on an assist from Kayla Kelly in the 50th minute for St. Joseph’s and the lead was cut to 3-2 when Meghan Williams set up Kelsey Drummond’s goal two minutes later.

Husson’s Kaitlin Dolloff made 16 saves for Husson and Emma Astbury had two for St. Joe’s (0-1), which lost to Husson for the first time since 2012.

Women’s Soccer

UMFK 7, UMM 1

At Fort Kent, the UM-Fort Kent Bengals outshot the UM-Machias Clippers 30-2 en route to improving their record to 5-0.

UMFK’s Marie-Laurance Montagne knocked a Yosselin Burrueco cross in the goal just 50 seconds into the match. Katherine Ferland and Kayla Richards added goals in the first half as well.

Kendra Freund, who has scored five goals in her last two home matches, added a goal in each half. Catherine Bruno also scored a goal in the second half on a beautiful half volley on another Burrueco cross.

UMM’s Brooklyne Lewis scored a second-half goal and Hayley Choate made 10 saves.

Men’s Soccer

UMFK 3, St. Joseph’s 2

At Standish, Rodney Witter’s unassisted goal at the 66:46 mark snapped a 2-2 tie and gave the unbeaten UMaine-Fort Kent Bengals the victory over the Monks.

The Bengals jumped out to a 2-0 lead just under three minutes into the first half as Ross Downie sent home an unassisted goal 17 seconds in and Daniel Blackwood scored off a Kalusha Kotes assist about two minutes later.

St. Joseph’s battled back with goals by Jesse Ramirez (27:27) and Sean Baker (40:57), both set up by Ralph Houanche.

UMFK outshot St. Joe’s 29-6 with Butch Forbes making two saves for the Bengals with Blake Mullen and Scott Benner combining on 11 for the Monks (1-1-1).
