BANGOR, Maine — An intoxicated man who allegedly believed it was not illegal to urinate on a police cruiser wound up going to jail, according to Bangor police.

According to a posting on the department’s Facebook page written by Sgt. Tim Cotton, Takunda Muzembe, 23, apparently approached a parked cruiser and decided to relieve himself on the outside of its passenger side.

According to Cotton’s post, Sgt. Jason Stuart was sitting in his parked patrol vehicle in the area of downtown bars when “he was alerted to the sound of footsteps and running water.”

“Since the man was on the passenger side of the Chevy Tahoe [cruiser], Sgt. Stuart rolled down the window and inquired if the man might be urinating on his car,” the posting read. “The man, obviously under the influence of something other than pomegranate juice, told Stuart that he was not. He lied.”

Muzembe apparently was serving as a designated driver for himself and a group of friends, according to the post. Shortly after urinating, he apparently readjusted his zipper in attempt to make the sergeant believe he was not relieving himself.

Police ultimately arrested Muzembe and charged him with disorderly conduct. It was after being booked into jail he told corrections officers he did not know it was against the law to urinate on a police vehicle.

“The moral to the story is this: If you pee on the po-po, to jail you will go-go,” the posting read.
