ORRINGTON, Maine — The owner of the dog that police say was killed by hanging is speaking out.

Charles Turner says losing his dog Luke has been almost like losing a child. Worst of all, investigators say Luke was hanged by Turner’s future brother-in-law Jonathan Blais. Turner says Blais had been staying in his home in Orrington while he worked through some mental health issues. Turner says the dog’s killing — and how it happened — is tearing his family apart.

Jonathan Blais faces felony animal cruelty charges. He claims he killed the dog because it nipped at and knocked over his 2-year-old daughter.
