LEBANON, Maine — A motorcycle crash in Lebanon on Saturday claimed the life of a 26-year-old New Hampshire man and marked the state’s 27th motorcycle related fatality for the year.
Matthew Goodwin, 26, of Somersworth, New Hampshire, was pronounced dead on the scene after he lost control of his 2006 Suzuki 650 motorcycle and struck multiple trees and rocks, according to Maine State Police.
Goodwin was not wearing a helmet, state police reported.
Public Information Officer Stephen McCausland said it appeared that Goodwin was driving west on Lower Cross Road when he lost control as he approached the intersection of Center Road.
The motorcycle skidded on its side and crossed the intersection. A responding trooper said the cause appeared to be speed and unfamiliarity with the road, according to McCausland.
A blood test will be performed to determine if alcohol was also involved, which is standard procedure in vehicular deaths.
McCausland said state police are attempting to determine where Goodwin was earlier in the evening.
They are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts that evening to call the Maine State Police in Gray at 207-657-3030 to speak with Trooper Jason Wing.
