PORTLAND, Maine — Police are searching for two men who allegedly robbed a taxi driver at knifepoint Saturday.

The robbery occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday in the area of Carriage Lane and Broadway, Portland police Lt. James Sweatt said.

The two suspects had flagged down the driver at the Munjoy South apartment complex, requesting a ride to the area of Riverton, Sweatt said.

The men directed the driver to the area of Third Street and Broadway, where they exited the vehicle and one pulled out a knife and demanded cash.

The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Both men are African American, and the knife-wielding man is between 20-25 years old and unshaven with cornrowed hair. He stands between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 1 inch and weighs 150 to 170 pounds, and was wearing a Houston Astros hat, dark pants and a green hooded sweatshirt.

The other man also stands between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 1 inch and weighs 160 pounds, is also unshaven and was wearing a dark jacket, long pants and a ballcap backwards.
