ROCKLAND, Maine — Two Rockland drivers were charged with drunken driving Tuesday in separate crashes, one of which was with a train.

The first crash occurred at about 2:30 p.m. when a car driven by Katherine Sims, 46, of St. George rear-ended a vehicle on Maverick Street by the intersection with Old County Road, according to Rockland police Sgt. Donald Finnegan.

Sims was arrested for operating under the influence and endangering the welfare of a child, Finnegan said. A 10-year-old girl was in the car, he said. No one was injured and the child was picked up by a relative, he said.

Three hours later, a car driven by 45-year-old Michael Duffy of Rockland was driving on Berkley Street and failed to yield for an oncoming Maine Eastern Railroad train, Finnegan said. There is a stop sign at the crossing, he pointed out.

There were no injuries but there was damage to the passenger-side rear end of Duffy’s vehicle where the train struck it. There was no visible damage to the train, Finnegan said.

Duffy was arrested and charged with OUI by Officer Alex Gaylor, Finnegan said.
