PORTLAND, Maine — Single-family home sales and the median price paid for those homes continued to rise in August compared with one year ago.

The Maine Realtors Association reported home sales rose about 6.8 percent, to 1,661 from 1,556 one year earlier.

Median sales prices continued to rise, accelerating to 5 percent growth over August 2014. The median sales price for single-family homes was $187,000, up from $178,000 one year ago.

While continuing sales and price growth through the summer, August marked the first month of 2015 when the median sales price declined from the previous month. The median sale price was $188,900 in July.

Nationally, the median sale price for single-family homes rose 5.1 percent in August, to $230,200; in the Northeast, it rose 2.4 percent, to $271,600. Sales volume rose 6.1 percent nationally and for the Northeast for the month, compared with one year ago.
