NEWRY, Maine — With cool air hovering over western Maine on Tuesday morning, Sunday River tested out its snow guns, the resort said in a statement.

At 5 a.m., the resort successfully tested 40 snow guns on the T2 trail on Locke Mountain. The resort has 1,900 snow guns.

The resort has not set an opening date for the 2015-2016 ski season. The resort typically opens on Halloween.

Full snowmaking requires temperatures to be sustained between 26 and 30 degrees overnight.
