PORTLAND, Maine — Small boxes are popping up in a Portland park, and they could make a big difference as the heroin crisis continues in Maine.
City leaders installed needle disposal boxes. They’re lockable metal containers with openings just large enough to put in a needle or syringe.
They were added after an increase in complaints about used needles left in Deering Oaks park.
City leaders say they are working on a bigger plan for addressing the growing heroin epidemic.
